The Genius Magician Hides His Swordsmanship - Chapter 19
Chapter 19. This is your first time at the mage tower, right? (3)
“Ian, it really pisses me off when I think about what you did to me! You’ll have to keep your head down in the mage tower. You’re done now.”
McDuff sneered the whole time he followed.
“You kept threatening me with penalty points from the academy? But what can you do now? There are no penalty points in the mage tower.”
This guy who seemed quiet at the academy, began to show his true nature. However, what McDuff didn’t know was this.
[Hmmmm… they seem to want to mess with you. You should show them.]
That I, too, was extremely patient within the Delemar family.
‘No one here will touch me.’
Beauray, who dared to quarrel with me, and McDuff, babbled.
‘Now I can properly educate you myself away from home.’
I was going to give them the home education they hadn’t received properly.
[By the way, aren’t you their cousin? Home education?]
‘Who cares? If you educate your family, that’s home education.’
It’s the duty of the family to make sure there are no leaks from the inside so there will be no leaks from the outside. Today, I’m going to fix their brains.
“Stay here.”
It was in a quiet alley near the mage tower that Beauray’s steps stopped.
‘No one will find us here.’
Beauray brought us to a dark back alley with no streetlights.
“Look me in the eyes.”
He rolled his eyes at me.
“What if I don’t?”
Drew’s eyes trembled at my disrespectful attitude.
“That’s it, brat!”
Eventually, Beauray lifted his right hand. It was as if he was going to punch me in the face.
‘Idiot.’
Rather, a smirk grew on my face.
“You’re laughing? You’re going to die today!”
Before long, Beauray’s fist began to approach my face.
‘This is it.’
There was nothing to read about his movement. The trajectory of a 17 year old boy who never even learned martial arts was obvious. I slightly tilted my head back.
Bam!
Beauray’s right hand cut through the air awkwardly.
“Whoa!”
Beauray twirled around comically as his posture collapsed.
“What are you doing?”
I also omitted honorifics, which was the bare minimum of courtesy. After today, he won’t even be able to meet my eyes.
“Oh! So you dodged it!”
Then, this time, Beauray stretched out his left hand. As expected, in sloppy movements.
“Stupid.”
I shifted my head slightly to avoid it. His balance collapsed rapidly. I couldn’t miss out on such a good opportunity.
Slam!
All I needed was a little footwork.
“Ugh!”
Beauray became one with the pile of garbage in the corner of the alley.
“This feels like a fairytale.”
He stood up in embarrassment.
“What?”
“You get along well with your trash brethren.”
Then, Beauray’s face distorted like crumpled paper.
“You swine!”
Flicker!
Mana gathered at his fingertips.
“Um…!”
Unlike Drew, who was horrified by the sight, I wasn’t taken aback.
‘Yeah, I expected him to start using magic.’
It wasn’t completely unexpected behavior.
‘I suppose that’s what Beauray was born to do.’
The earth beneath my feet began to shake.
“Let’s see if you can keep that big mouth of yours open.”
A wicked smile tugged at the corners of Beauray’s mouth. It wasn’t hard to recognize the magic.
‘If I know him at all, it’s of the earth attribute.’
An earthy hand that rears up to subdue an opponent. It was usually used to grab ankles and block movement.
‘Too slow.’
The technique was simple. All you had to do was move before the hand came out, and you’d be safe.
And before Beauray could finish casting it.
Crash!
I slammed him onto the ground.
“W-What?!”
He panicked. It was a natural reaction. He’s a kid whose only experience with fighting was in magical dueling. This action was completely unexpected.
‘Did he really think I’d respond back with magic?’
That was how mages fought, but it wasn’t necessary. It was much faster and easier than magic, so why bother.
“Keogh!”
I ran over and kicked him in the stomach, then he flopped back into the garbage pile.
“Why don’t you just lie down, you look best next to garbage. Or would you prefer recycling?”
“…What?”
“Actually, yeah. Let’s see if you’re even worth recycling.”
“Oi, you asshole…!”
Beauray lashed out at the insults.
[You’re even using psychological warfare, isn’t that too much?]
‘If you’re going to educate someone, do it right. This guy’s ego needs to be stomped on to get him to wake up.’
I looked at Beauray calmly as he stood up again. He gritted his teeth, while full of rage. McDuff and Drew were watching, which only made him even more furious.
‘What kind of magic are you going to use this time?’
With a wave of his hand, five fist-sized boulders appeared. The boulders swarmed around Beauray’s body.
‘Oh, I see he’s already learned stone twister.’
It was a type of defensive magic. A technique used by mages a thousand years ago against swordsmen to keep them at bay by rapidly spinning rocks around the caster’s body.
There was no way I didn’t know about it.
‘That should be good enough for practice.’
A mage with excellent achievements could manage dozens, no, even hundreds of stones. Beauray has just reached 4 stars. He didn’t look too menacing.
I took a step towards Beauray. Again, the boy was scared.
“You, you! You’ll get hit by a stone if you come any closer?”
It didn’t matter.
[Why aren’t you using magic?]
When I was a swordsman, it was my hobby to penetrate the cracks in the stone twister, and to see the appalled expressions of the mages.
‘It’s been a while since I’ve warmed up.’
A stone flying from the right was avoided by twisting my upper body. Then another stone was rushing at my left cheek.
‘No way.’
I lowered my head lightly and took a step closer.
“Oi, you’re crazy!”
Beauray, terrified, released more stones at me.
Fwoo!
Then the stones got faster.
‘Too late.’
A stone was flying towards my ankle.
Bam!
I avoided it by taking another step closer to Beauray.
Whoo!
A stone was flying towards my side, but I did not bother to respond. My hand was hitting Beauray’s abdomen faster than it.
“Keuk!”
As his body bent.
Crack!
The stones all lost their way and fell to the floor.
[Heh, he should’ve chosen his opponent wisely.]
At that moment, I tried to approach him.
‘What the hell?’
A sharp feeling wrapped around my back. I turned my head instinctively.
Flicker-
McDuff was lighting sparks in his hand.
“What are you doing?”
“H-Huh?”
Panicked, he hurriedly extinguished the flame.
“Your turn is coming soon. Just wait a little.”
He couldn’t avoid my cold gaze. From then on, it was a one-sided situation.
[…End him.]
My merciless fists massaged Beauray’s entire body. He’s not used to physical pain.
“AHHHH!”
He let out a monstrous scream.
“Shut it.”
Of course, I wasn’t about to bat an eye at that, and by the time it was over, he was on his knees begging for his life.
“McDuff.”
McDuff, hesitantly approached at my call, naturally, he went and stood next to Beauray.
“I-I’m sorry.”
“Beauray hyung, whom you followed so closely, is on his knees, but you are still stiff?”
“Huh? Oh!”
McDuff hurriedly knelt beside him.
“People like you can’t be rehabilitated with talk. Do you know how many opportunities I’ve given you?”
“Uh huh, I was wrong.”
Beauray nodded as his face was covered in tears and with a runny nose. McDuff looked back and forth between Beauray and me. I was just watching and keeping an eye on them.
“McDuff.”
He looked at me with trembling eyes.
“Now, whose life will be messed up in the mage tower again?”
I gave McDuff the most evil grin I could muster.
* * *
“Beauray hyung, where is the excavation site in Las?”
He wasn’t a completely useless guy after all.
“Ah… the excavation site?”
Hence the fact Beauray came to the mage tower 2 years ago, he has to know information about Las to some extent.
“It’s not too far from here, just turn right out of the alley and you’ll see it.”
Apparently the lesson had worked, because he listened intently.
“Okay. You and McDuff go back to the mage tower.”
“Oh, yeah. But why did you ask about that?”
“You might get hurt if you keep asking questions?”
Beauray’s mouth dropped open in surprise.
‘Now that’s some home training.’
It’s refreshing to see him scared, even if it’s just a little bit.
[I know, it makes me wonder if he can be fixed.]
‘Well, we’ll see if he’s recyclable trash, or if we should just burn it.’
Whether they realized it or not, Beauray and McDuff were scurrying out of the alley.
‘Wow…! That’s awesome. How did you do that?”
Drew, who had watched the whole thing, exclaimed. For Drew, what he had just seen must have come as a shock. Here it comes.
‘His Gibson’s blood must be boiling.’
As expected, Drew was rocking his upper body from side to side on his own, as if replaying the fight.
“You can be like that if you follow my instructions.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, because you’re more talented than anyone.”
It was time to teach Drew some swordsmanship moves, so I pulled him out of the alley.
“Drew, you go back to the mage tower first.”
“Huh? You’re not coming with me? Where are you going?”
“I have something to do.”
“I guess I shouldn’t come with you, should I?”
Drew, who’d been with me for so long, had realized that I have a lot of secrets. At some point, he stopped questioning my actions.
“Yes, when the time comes, I’ll tell you about this incident as well.”
“Okay! Come back before it’s too late!”
Looking at his back walking away.
Ugh!
I activated my mana.
[Oh, are you using that ring?]
The place where the mana flowed into was the small ring on my finger.
‘There are too many restrictions to go around with red eyes.’
Somehow, going to the ruins excavation site could be noticed by someone. I couldn’t go around with enemies watching to a place labeled off-limits. The risk of exposing my identity was too great.
[Your pupils have turned black. It can definitely hide that you are a Delemar.]
As it was an artifact that Rio made himself, the effect was obvious.
‘Then let’s go.’
Leaving the robe provided by the mage tower on one side of the alley, I left the alley.
Around 5 minutes had passed, and then an area covered by barbed wire came into view.
‘This must be the place Beauray was talking about.’
On the other side of the barbed wire, only a soft light shone, but there was no sign of anyone.
‘Is it because it’s night? It doesn’t it seem like anyone is here?’
I wasn’t sure if this was where I hid my stuff. Because the whole structure of the city had changed, it was difficult to grasp geographically. If so, I’ll have to check it out for myself.
‘I have to go in.’
[How will you even enter? Just looking at this, it looks like it’s under lightning-type magic.]
Oberon’s worries were natural.
Pzz-
Above the barbed wire, a menacing current occasionally bounced. There’s no way the mages just put up barbed wire.
‘Can’t I just jump over this?’
[This high? Is it possible with your body right now?]
It was a barbed wire fence that seemed to be at least 3 meters tall, so it was a natural question. If it were my past body, it would have been easily possible. But, it’s impossible with my current body.
Although, I have something that is different from my time as a swordsman.
‘Oberon, can’t I use magic now?’
I controlled my mana right away. The mana that flowed through my body naturally gathered at my toes.
Fwooo!
I could feel the wind rustling around my ankles. The wind, which gradually got faster, soon lifted my body a little.
‘What do you think?’
Air Walker, one of the Arens’ rituals, was what I was practicing. Although, it was a ritual that required a lot of mana and concentration throughout the operation.
‘If I applied it well, I thought it could be used as a substitute for some of the common spells, so I worked hard to learn it.’
If you get used to it, it would be clear that it was a spell that would be very useful for swordsmen.
[Hmph, how dare you replace incredible footwork with magic!]
Oberon was arguing for nothing, but his eyes were also shining. It was because the level of footwork that could lift the body was a level that could only be reached past 9 stars.
‘Let’s go. I wonder if this is where my babies are.’
Then I jumped towards the barbed wire.
